I have been thinking about starting a blog and website for some time now. The past few years have been a bit of a challenge for all of us, myself included. A lot of changes have transpired in my life and I found myself at a crossroad. So I've decide to take a leap of faith and go for something that I've dreamed about for years...living my life as authentically as feasible as full time artist. I use the term artist loosely to include all things creative. Even the day to day rituals of life are more pleasurable if approached with a creative spirit.

So...I reduced my expenses, sold my nice new suburban home, bought a humble, little rustic fisherman's cabin in the woods, set up an art studio in a shed and planted a garden. Want to see it?

When my mom heard that I had done this, she had to giggle. "Of all my children, you are the last person that I would have expected this from. You were afraid of everything as a child."

Well, I've come a long way since then. And when I think back upon my life, I have fond memories of extended summer visits on the farm with my grandparents. And yes, I was timid about getting to close to the cows, and I was skittish about riding the horses (thanks to a floundered sheltland pony who was opposed to having riders and would try and scrub you off on a tree). But, there were also treasured moments that resonate a feeling of home, family, and a sense of having roots.

So in a way, it makes sense that I have rediscovered those roots in my new surroundings, and feel at peace here enveloped in nature. It is so quiet here that you can actually hear leaves as they fall.

I have a new appreciation for the sights and sounds of nature and am in tune with the cardinal's song.

I'm in rhythm with the dancing pines as they gracefully sway in the breeze. I've even come to terms with the occasional lime green lizard that likes to nap on my sunny window sill.

So as I wake in the morning to the music of chirping birds, and am lulled to sleep each evening by the crickets or the occasional hooting of an owl, I am grateful that tomorrow brings a new day with new beginnings. Life is a journey.
